Chapter 46: A Day In The Life – Jeanette 3

The kids—Becky and Jack—will tell you they owe everything to me, but they’re mistaken. I owe everything to them. They saved my life.

You learned how I became a photographer and started taking pictures of naked kids, how I met David, and how I started selling my pictures to child porn magazines. You also know how I met Gordon and Gina. Some of you asked to learn more about the little boys I photographed and more about the sex I had with kids while I was still in junior high and high school. I hope to come back to that someday because I’d like to tell you more. You also know why I dropped out of school, so I won’t rehash that again.

What you don’t know is how I ran away to Europe and what happened to me there. It’s taken me a long time to come to terms with it, so now I think it’s time to tell you about it.

When I dropped out of college in the spring of 1967, I moved in with Gordon for a few months until I could decide what to do.

I should mention that, three years earlier when I graduated from high school, Mr. Bemis decided to retire and offered to sell me his studio and the business that went with it, clients and all—my dad even offered to co-sign a loan—but I had an art scholarship to the U so I turned him down, which was one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done. Worse yet, the asshole who bought it promptly ran it into the ground.

So Mr. Bemis was gone—to Florida, I think—and his business was gone, and now my scholarship was gone, too.

To make ends meet I got a part-time job at a Sears portrait studio but it wasn’t any fun. I still had my kiddie porn business but it languished, taking a backseat to my studies while I was in college. So no graduation, no degree, nothing to mark my transition to adulthood, and no future to look forward to.

Fortunately, having been in business for a long time and having corresponded regularly with several publishers, I’d built mutually respectful relationships with a number of them, albeit from a distance. To my pleasant surprise, when I mentioned my troubles, I received several offers.

The most intriguing offer came from a small group of child porn enthusiasts in France. I didn’t know much about them, but I was desperate to go somewhere else. You see, things in the United States had gotten really bad.

The U.S. government had ramped up the Vietnam War to the point where nearly half a million Americans were fighting there. It was absolutely massive—and appalling. Casualty rates had doubled from the previous year and the government was drafting every boy I knew who wasn’t in college—and even some who were—to make up the losses. Even poor, sweet David saw the writing on the wall and enlisted in the Marines. He came back ok, as you know, but lots of guys didn’t.
